The deciding factor for me to purchase this was the ability to quickly create perspective views, which are often used in patent drawings.

CP CHEMICAL INCORPORATED.

CP Kasei Co., Ltd., located in Ibara City, Okayama Prefecture, is a creative food container manufacturer that handles everything from the production of raw sheet material (gentan), design, film production, and container shape design, to container manufacturing and sales. While addressing various social needs, such as diversifying lifestyles, growing interest in food safety, and environmental considerations, the company's purpose is to "wrap the future with a smile," and it continues to strive to create new value and products that anticipate a rich future for food culture. The Intellectual Property Department, in particular, protects core technologies in sheet development, product planning, and design through a "mixed" approach that combines patents, designs, and trademarks. For example, the department files a combined patent and design application by verifying the shape of a food container prototype from 3D drawings before it goes on sale. The department also serves as a "bridge" between departments, responding to various inquiries from other departments and providing them with added value.
This time, we spoke with Mr. Fukui, Mr. Tatsuno, and Mr. Iriki, who belong to the Intellectual Property Department, which protects CP Chemical's "technology and brand," as well as Mr. Okada, Executive Officer and Head of the Sales Management Division.

Mr. Okada

How did you find out about our products?

While searching the internet for a relatively inexpensive and easy-to-use 3D software, I came across "3DTascalX/Light." I was introduced to 3D CAD by another department within the company and knew the price, so I thought the price was relatively attractive.

What problems did you face before the implementation?

When filing a patent application, a document called a "patent application request" is created and sent to the patent office. Creating the drawings to accompany this document took a lot of time. In particular, perspective drawings to convey the product's shape were created by hand or using image editing software. I also arranged for 2D drawings from the design and traced the necessary information from the drawings.

What made you decide to buy it?

The free trial period of about a month allowed me to test the usability and specifications to meet my needs. There were YouTube videos and free online training courses available, allowing me to thoroughly test the software. The deciding factor was the ability to easily convert 3D data into perspective DXF data, allowing me to quickly create perspective views, which are often used in patent drawings. In addition to intermediate data such as STEP and IGES, the wide variety of data formats available when receiving data from outside the company can be a very troubling issue. The ability to import a wide range of data formats with 3DTascalX/Light was also a deciding factor.

What features do you use? And what are the results?

My main job is creating perspective drawings. I create DXF perspective drawings from 3D data. Compared to before implementation, the labor hours have been reduced by almost half (50%). The time saved has been used to improve the quality of documents, such as detailed explanations of the essential parts of the invention, variations, and information to include in patent specifications. (Tatsuno)

Sometimes, IGES drawing data sent by clients has missing surfaces, so I sometimes use the surface repair function. (Fukui)

I've only just started using it, but the easy-to-understand icons and intuitive operation have been very helpful.
(Iriki)

Future Plans

The containers we manufacture are called one-way containers, and are disposable containers. With growing environmental awareness these days, we are working under the "3R+Renewable" initiative. We are committed to promoting resource conservation and waste reduction by using materials with a low environmental impact, such as biomass plastics, and recycling scraps and discarded industrial waste generated during the manufacturing process. We hope that Seeset will further improve the efficiency of creating oblique drawings. We would be even more effective if we could create and output multiple oblique drawings with a single command, and if we could create oblique drawings in the same flow as three-dimensional drawings.
