TAKAHATA PRECISION(THAILAND)LTD.
TAKAHATA PRECISION (THAILAND) LTD. was established in 1991 as the second overseas base of the TAKAHATA Group. The TAKAHATA Group is a global company with 14 bases around the world. The company designs and manufactures precision parts made from engineering plastics for customers in a wide range of fields, including automobiles, office equipment, optical equipment, housing facilities, and medical equipment.
We spoke with Sriwan Wiwat and Mooltha Assadevut from the New Model Department about the background to their introduction of 3DFovi and the effects it has had.

Mr.SRIWAN WIWAT
Please tell us about the work your company does.
Our company primarily handles plastic molding, assembly, and mold manufacturing in the 50-600 ton range. Approximately 70% of our business is made up of parts for automobiles, 30% for office automation equipment, and starting next year, we plan to begin manufacturing parts for medical equipment. We currently employ approximately 800 people, and our strength lies in our ability to flexibly respond to customer demands for quality and delivery dates.

Please tell us about the work you both do.
Our main job is launching new models. When manufacturing new parts, we consider whether mass production is possible and create prototypes that reflect customer requirements. It's especially important to check the parts before and after mold manufacturing. Customers in different countries, such as the United States, Germany, and Japan, have different requirements for precision, price, and delivery time. To meet these needs, we currently outsource our work to around 10 mold manufacturers. Taking into account our own in-house production capacity, we manage the launch of new models that meet customer requirements.
What is the background to its introduction?
Actually, 3DFovi was already in place when I was assigned to this department (lol). So I don't know the exact details of why it was introduced. However, I do know that this software is necessary. That's because our department doesn't have any 3D CAD software. However, for work purposes, we need to view, measure, and create documents based on the shapes of 3D data sent by customers.

Mr.MOOLTHA SSADAVUT
What features do you use?
I mainly use functions such as importing IGES data, measuring dimensions, checking cross sections, and copying images.
After prototyping, I compare the actual molded product with the 3D data and compile a document to confirm whether the molding was successful. For complex shapes, I need to check many cross sections, so I use this function a lot.

How effective is it?
This department already had the software when I was assigned, so I can't compare it to before the introduction, but it's clear that without 3DFovi, work would have taken a lot longer. First, there's the time and effort of sending the data to the design department, which has the 3D CAD software, and requesting the desired cross-section and dimensions. Even if the design department responds, if it's not in the location or angle we want, there's the additional time and effort of requesting it. If the design department is busy, the wait time could be more than a day. I'm sure we've been able to reduce these man-hours. I couldn't do my job without this software.

Finally, please tell us about your future prospects.
There are times when I feel that 3DFovi lacks functionality. For example, measuring dimensions on a cross section or comparing old and new models when a design change occurs. I've heard that 3DTascalX/Light can solve these issues, so I'd definitely consider adopting it.
