We noticed that we have had an opportunity loss and the effectiveness of C’set products until it was introduced for the first time.

Kobayashi Kenma Kogyo Co., Ltd.

Kobayashi Abrasive Industries, Ltd., located in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture, is a polishing company that specializes in hand-polishing metals, resins, and other materials. While this area is home to many companies specializing in polishing, Kobayashi Abrasive Industries has two key features that set it apart.

The first is resin polishing. Their work ranges from removing plastic impurities from molded products to finishing machined products. By using abrasives formulated in-house and changing them depending on the material, they achieve finishes that other companies cannot match. Surprisingly, the roots of these abrasives can be traced back to technology used by European luxury watch and car manufacturers.

The second feature is dimensional control. Due to its nature, polishing is often a final finishing process, directly linked to dimensional tolerances and surface roughness specified in blueprints. While polishing tends to emphasize the aesthetics of the finished product, clients expect the dimensions and surface roughness to accurately match the blueprints.
The company's unique feature of being able to not only provide a proper finish but also to accept specifications for surface roughness is what sets it apart from other companies.
Recently, through word of mouth and online searches, the company has been receiving job requests from companies in a variety of industries, and we spoke with CEO Hajime Kobayashi, who spoke with confidence about his desire to further hone his skills for the sake of his customers.

Please tell me how you got to know about C’set product

It was introduced by the mould maker who is our customer.

What was your problem before the introduction?

I had no problem.
Well, there are a lot of things I noticed for the first time after introducing it.

Buffing of acrylic parts

Please tell me the effect after introduction

First I only accepted 2D job. In case of 3D data, I thought that it would be bothersome (laughs), so from then until now it was a big opportunity loss. With 3DTascalX / Light, we can see 3D data of various extensions that are sent from different customers, so from the view point of our customers, it is unusual for a "polished shop" even can do it; so we feel like becoming bit of a high status. In addition, until now, there were many instructions of the processing point in the photograph and the image, but still there are cases where the actual item comes to be lost in judgment due to the fine part etc. ・ it takes twice as much of time and effort to do the re-processing etc. However, in the case of 3D data, the above can be reduced considerably because each side can be indicated with color and notes to the smallest detail. It is the difference between clouds and mud. If you use materials that use 3D data for instructions on finishing for customers who have a poor understanding of polishing, it will be transmitted smoothly.

Furthermore, it was the processing instructions for internal staff that had the greatest effect. Again in 2D drawings, the views differ depending on the experience of the staff, but in 3D, the accuracy and response speed of the estimate will increase because they can be understood and judged on the same level by anyone. It was a very big change for me as it was between the opinion of the processing site and the customer who was looking for a balance between cost and finishing accuracy.

Recently, I can use 3D Reader free of charge to indicate to our subcontractors with 3D data, so I feel that it has the same effect as communicating within inside our company has come out.

What are your expectations for products and C’set in the future?

To be honest, I think that few companies have introduced such software in the same industry, so I do not want them to be introduced for differentiation (laughs)
